Research Strategy:
Books

Most people believe that they must go to the library in order to find out what books are available in the library, but this is not the case.

You can search the Schoolcraft College book collection on-line. E-books are also available. If you are not a student at Schoolcraft College, check your own college's website for its on-line catalogue.

Many other southeast Michigan libraries also have their collections on-line. You can get links to these libraries from the Schoolcraft College Library web page.

Amazon.com as a Research Tool

Amazon.com is a valuable research tool as well as an on-line bookstore. Search their extensive database for books on your topic. Amazon.com often provides tables of contents, indexes, and sample pages for many of their books; books that you can then search for at the library or that can be immediately ordered on-line.

Google has scanned more than 30,000,000 books which they make available in an on-line database. Many of the books-especially those published before 1930-can be downloaded to your personal computer. I have located over 100 books that I have already used in my genealogical research.
