Step 2
Search “Academic Search Complete"

Screen capture

For this lesson, you will only use the database called “Academic Search Complete." This database is the first one listed on the page. But, later, you should search other relevant databases for information on your research topic.

  1. You will notice that you can link to this database either from on-campus or off-campus. You should enter the database using the appropriate link.

    • If you enter the database from one of the college's computer labs, you will go directly into Academic Search Complete.

    • However, if you try to access the database from off campus, you will be asked for a user id and password.

You may get a list of passwords at the library or via e-mail by contacting library@schoolcraft.edu. If you request a list of passwords via e-mail, you must include your full name, student number, and the Schoolcraft College course in which you are enrolled in the e-mail. Unfortunately, because of liscensing restrictions, passwords can only be supplied to Schoolcraft College students, faculty, and staff.

  2. You can now search the database for information on your topic by typing a key word(s) into the box under the word “Find." For example, if you are writing a paper on “Castles During the Medieval Period" two search terms that might be ideal are “castles" and “medieval."

  3. Please note that in “Academic Search Complete" you need to separate your key words with the word “and." Therefore, in this example, you would search for “castles and medieval" to get the results you want. For additional information on doing effective searches, click on “Search Tips" and read the information provided there.

  4. Now, click on the “Search Button."
