Promoting Integrity in Assignments:
Combine with Service Learning

During 1978, I did an internship in Congressman Bob Carr's Lansing District Office. At the end of the internship, I was required to write an analysis based on my experiences. No one else but me could have written this analysis. Although we did not call it "service learning," my work with the congressman met the definition of service learning used at Schoolcraft College:

Service-Learning links academic courses and voluntarism to benefit both students and community. Service-Learning builds relationships between academic theory and "real-world" application, fosters a sense of civic responsibility, and kindles an interest in lifelong learning. Knowledge, personal growth, and skills developed through service-learning are assessed as learning outcomes and transfer to professional life.
More information about service learning at Schoolcraft College can be found on the "Service Learning Partners" page on the college's website.
