Promoting Integrity in Assignments:
Require Photocopies
Ask students to photocopy or print out their research. Some faculty members require these types of research materials to be submitted with the final paper. However, I assign students to bring photocopies and printouts of research to class throughout the semester. Such a strategy requires that the student do research over time — which helps with understanding — while also helping them pace their research throughout the semester.
Asking students to keep copies also helps them organize their materials. Assigning students to read the "Taking Research Notes" tutorial can also help them prevent plagiarism.
