Link With
Full Citation

Putting the full citation on each note card might seem excessive. But if you type your notes, you can easily cut and paste the citation onto each card.

You might ask, "Why would someone bother to type their research notes?" It is a good question that does an answer. Typing is a good way to review and to learn the material.

In this example, I did not use a standard sized note card. Instead, I use note cards that are 4.25" x 5.5". The reason for this is that I have created a template so that I can easily type four note cards on a standard 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper. Once I print out the pages on card stock, I cut them in quarters for my note cards.

You will also notice that I did not put quotation marks around what appears to be quoted material. Because I choose to only use direct quotes on my typed note cards, I know that everything written is a direct quote. While this is not a strategy I would recommend to my students, it does work well for me.
