Writing a News Story
That is Misleading or Highly Partisan
For this assignment, I ask students to take a current news event and then write an essay that is misleading or highly partisan.
Students can exchange their manuscript with another student. The second student would be responsible for revising the essay so that it is not misleading or highly partisan.
Variations
- If you are asking students to write a highly partisan article, you can make a list of partisan positions which the students draw out of a basket. This way, no one knows the real partisan position of the students.
- Have students choose a website that publishes misleading or partisan news. Have them draft an article in the style of the website.
