Promoting Integrity at the Classroom Level:
Structure Exams

Some ideas to help prevent cheating during exams include:

  • seat students alphabetically or do something else to change the standard seating arrangement.
  • make sure you leaving space between students
  • create multiple versions of the exams by having different questions or by arranging questions in a different order
  • before the test begins, collect the blue books and then redistribute them to the students
  • if a student arrives after the first exam has been submitted, do not allow the student to take the exam
  • walk around while students are taking the exam
  • do not leave the room during the exam
  • have a clear and strict policy on academic integrity in your syllabus
