YouTube Video

The most recent edition of the MLA Handbook provides flexibility in the types of information included in a citation. Although I send individuals to the Purdue On-Line Writing Lab for additional information, I believe that more information—when available—should be included than is suggested by Purdue. For example, the date of the original video is important; not just the date the video was uploaded. For example, in the example below, the fact that the video is from 1938 is important information that should be included.

Basic Format

Authors. "Title." Date. YouTube, Uploaded by, Date of Upload. URL. Accessed.

1Please note that the URL does not include the "http://" as part of it.

Example

Riefenstahl, Leni. "'Opening Sequence," Olympia." 1938. YouTube, Uploaded by Steven L. Berg, 17 Sept. 2013. www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqQk1Tko5eg. 1 Oct. 2016.
